Director Marvin Kren introduces yet another zombie apocalypse in his debut feature, German horror Rammbock starring Michale Fruith and Theo Trebs. Here is the synopsis:
As a virus begins rampaging through Berlin causing it’s residents to turn into mindlessly lethal maniacs, Michael (Fuith) returns to the city to re-unite with his ex-girlfriend, unfortunately she isn’t home and the infected masses are swarming the building. Michael meets young Harper (Trebs) and the two men are forced to barricade themselves in order to survive, workout an escape and locate Michael’s missing ex.
Its near impossible to gather if anything original or particularly interesting has been at least attempted in this trailer for what must simply be retracing over all too familiar and increasingly pointless zombie ground. Much like the recent REC and La Horde Rammbock looks equipped with a lazy reliance on ‘not being American’ as a badge of uniqueness, although all other elements appear as generic as ever. The angle here is obviously human reaction rather than a gorefest, but with the overblown orchestral score and assault of tag lines replacing any actual acting, we’re not really given the chance to judge if the character focus has any promise.
Rammbock is due for DVD release on October 25th in the UK.
