Today the BBC announced the shortlist of nominess for the annual BBC Four World Cinema Award. The five shortlisted films are Let The Right One In, I am Love, A Prophet, The White Ribbon and Waltz with Bashir. The ceremony will be hosted by Jonathan Ross, presumably fulfilling out the last leg of his BBC contract, and will be held at the BFI Southbank on Thursday 7 October, to be televised on BBC Four on Saturday 9 October. The award was won last year by the realtively unknown film 4 Months, 3 Weeks And 2 Days, a Romanian drama about a woman struggling to have an abortion in the 1980′s.
As well as awarding one film the coveted winners prize the judges will also choose an international film maker to win The BBC Four World Cinema Achievement Award at the ceremony, which was won last year by director Werner Herzog.
