I agree with Bart. Cassavetes generation was far from free of the system and Mr. Cassavetes though on the fringe was far less radical than Gallo. They are both great filmmakers and two of the very best Americans but Gallo is a complete and utter outsider and boy does he pay the price for it.

Vincent Gallo is far more independent than Mr. Cassavetes ever was or ever could be. Gallo finances his own films, distributes them and recently doesn't even distribute them or show them to anyone. Gallo has never been part of the mainstream in any way whatsoever and his manner after his film Buffalo 66 became popular was to make it clear and definitive he was not interested in taking his work closer to larger audiences or pursuing studio support. Gallo has no agent manager or support system of any kind and frankly he has no real support of the critics as his work is outside of their view of things. Gallo is America's most independent filmmaker and Mr. Cassavetes would not have lasted a day in his shoes.

I think this movie was charming, but also far more. The storyline is playful, the characters are believable and above all the outcome was realistic [not idealistic as in many films]. The last scene [hide and seek] sums up the best possible outcome for all post-loss relationships, very nicely done.

I’ve always been a fan of National lampoon since Animal House starring the late great John Belushi,The film, along with Kentucky Fried Movie, also directed by Jon Landis, was largely responsible for defining the gross-out genre of films while still being exceedingly funny but some of the others in the series have failed to live up to expectation and there’s been a few absolute stinkers too.

[...] You don’t see much written about Norwegian cinema…and possibly with good reason, as until recently this domestic movie market had been pretty quiet on the European movie scene. All of that could be about to change, according to this article by Alexandra Ferguson from The Film Pilgrim. Read it here. [...]

I'll be sure to check that out, from what i've read of it it seems pretty personal. Have a read of sleazoid if you're interested in that era of cinema and not just Milligan.
